Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

Welcome to the FVGS wikiThis is a featured page

fvgs logoThe Fox Valley Genealogical Society (FVGS) of Wisconsin is a non-profit organization formed for the purpose of exchanging and sharing information, collecting and preserving resource materials, and promoting genealogical research. Covering Outagamie County, Wisconsin and the Fox Valley's surrounding communities, which include, Menasha and Neenah.

For announcements that need to go out before a meeting see the NEWS page. Looking for a certain surname? Use the SEARCH box on the left where is says "Search this site" [at this time - 8/6/2009 - WETPAINT still has a bug that affects the search box; it is not searching all of our pages and we have no idea if they are actually working on it]. It couldn't be any easier. Looking for databases? Check out the Wiki pages in the box on the left where you can find cemetery readings, plat map indexes, obituaries indexes, state census indexes and lots more.

Now, thanks to the world of 'WEB 2.0', we can invite our members and researchers, with connections to the Fox Valley, to add photos, indexes, stories, or resources in an easy and uncomplicated way, our goal is to facilitate collaboration and sharing between researchers and members.

We recommend that anyone interested in research in the Fox Valley join our wiki. Once you have created your username and password all you have to do is sign in whenever you visit and there magically appears on the page options for adding, deleting, changing, etc. pages and text. All you have to do is go to the page you want to edit, click on the easy edit button and start typing. The other benefit to joining is getting emails letting you know when changes have been made to the site and what they were. Please, explore!

This is my Great Grandfather- he was one of the first street railway construction foreman in the country. He superintended the crew which installed Appleton's first car tracks. He also was one of the six chartered members of Zion Lutheran Church. He was Born in Carnitz, Germany. He came to America and settled in Appleton in1881. He was living At 622 E. Randall St. when he died June 1st 1930 he was 79. He left a wife, three sons Albert and Louis of Appleton, and William Jr. of Milwaukee, four daughters: Mrs. Anna Dundon, from Ysilanti, Mich, Mrs John Hanway ( my grandmother) and Mrs. Peter Gregory both from Detroit, Mich, and Mrs. William West of Cleveland, Ohio and 15 grandchildren. I am hoping desperately to find a family member. I have never met any of my Grandmothers family and recently found out my Great Grandfathers name. I live in Florida, so I have to do the research from afar. Any help is greatly appreciated. Kitty

I would like to say thanks just to be able to see these pictures. Appleton's mayor in 1862-64 William Johnson is the brother of my gggrandfather, James Penrose Johnson. He died in the CA goldfields, 1850 and little is known about the family except what is published about William.
