  • obituary- Madelyn Helen Gunderson JANESVILLE – Madelyn Helen “Maddie” Gunderson, age 54, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 4, 2011 after a courageous 11 year battle with breast cancer. She was born Feb. 9, 1957 in Beloit, the seventh child of Allen and Margaret Stuck. Maddie graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1975 and lived for several years in California. She married David Gunderson on Oct. 9, 1998. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beloit. In addition to her wonderful husband David, she is further survived by two daughters, Kimberly (Shawn) Gunn, of Janesville and Heather (Jack) Ewing, of Prescott, Wis.; five grandchildren, Alex and Bauer Ewing; Dalton and Savanna Williams and Waylon Gunn, nine siblings, Catherine Karlshoej, of Roscoe, IL, John Stuck, of Beloit, Lizbeth (Gar) Jurgena, Hastings, NE, William (Vicki) Stuck, of Beloit, Mary (Willis) Abegglen, Clinton, Joanne Hackl, of Brodhead, Lisa Bakke, of Kansas City, Nanette (Duane) Bush, Tucson, AZ, and Susan Kramar, of Beloit; aunts, Marles and Helen Steuck; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Celebration of Maddie’s life will be held at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1618 E. Racine St., Janesville on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 12 noon. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 A.M until time of service at the funeral home at the funeral home.   • Obituary- Murleen Ida Riehl

    Murleen Ida Riehl passed away on the evening of her 95th birthday after suffering from a stroke a week earlier. She was born in the Town of Maine, the eldest child of Benjamin and Edna Gunderson's fifteen children. She was united in marriage to Richard Riehl, Town of Ellington, on August 24, 1938.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, their twins, four brothers (Merle, Earl, Jim and Russell), five sisters (June, Grace, Carmen, Ruth, and Vera), and her son-in-law William Van Den Bogart.

    She is survived by Sharon (Thomas) Haber and children: John, Joel (Dinorah), and Jennifer (Vaughn) Wallace; Shirlyne Van Den Bogart and children: Thomas (Daniel), Mike, David (Lori), and Michelle (Scott) Wichman; Eugene (Mary) Riehl and children: Kelly (Tim) Kelly and Kari (Simon) Ly: Susan Riehl.

    She really enjoyed doing yard work including planting her gardens and maintaining her flower beds and numerous house plants. Canning fruits and vegetables were an annual event for her. She loved to bake breads and sweets, and would always invite a visitor to stay for a meal. She was passionate about traveling and enjoyed learning about history and other cultures. She will be missed by her family.

    Visitation will be on Friday, June 24th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with the service following at Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church, 930 E. Florida Avenue, Appleton.

    Her family wishes to thank the staff of Grand Horizons West, Southern Care Hospice, and the ministers of Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church for their care and concern.

  • Obituary-Gunderson, Maren Christine Services held for Mrs. Ole Gunderson

    Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Eberhardt funeral home for Mrs. Ole Gunderson, 89, who died Friday afternoon at the home of her son, George, White Lake. Mrs. Gunderson lived in Clintonville for a number of years. Her husband died here 17 years ago.

    Maren Christina Knudsen was born in Denmark, August 16, 1852, and came to America in 1871. She was married to Ole Gunderson at Negaunee, Michigan, in 1872. The couple had ten children, four of whom preceded her in death.

    Her early life was spent in Oconto county and later she lived on a farm near Pulcifer. The family then came to Clintonville where they lived until Mr. Gunderson died in 1925. At that time she made her home with the family of her son George.

    She is survived by one sister, Cina Frank, Underhill; six children. George, Langlade; Alfred, Leeman; Emma, Iron Mountain, Michigan; Carl, Kenosha; Benjamin, Leeman; Edward, Iron Mountain, Michigan; twenty-four grand-children and six great grand children.

    Age 95, died October 22, 2003, at Vallhaven Care Center. She was born August 15, 1908, in Aurora, Illinois, daughter of the late Mike and Louise (Zieder) Hammes. Frances married Gust Backman at Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah.
    Frances is survived by 2 sons: James (Blanche) Backman, Neenah; Bob (Betty) Backman, Prescott Valley, AZ; 5 grandchildren: Cindy (Randy) Kolstad; Mary (Kelly) Longgrear; John Backman; Paul (Debbie) Backman; Robert Backman Jr.; 8 great grandchildren: Josh, Jesse, Justin, Rachel, Aaron, Nick, Jeremy and Markus; 2 sisters, Elsie Berling and Dorothy Radtke; a special niece and her husband, Joan (Archie) Hinahara; Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Gust Backman; 2 grandsons, David and Mark Backman; a brother, John and a sister, Agnes.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at Martin Luther Church, Neenah, with Pastor Richard A. Maurice officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. A special thank you to the ladies at Geri-Care Cabin and the staff at Vallhaven Care Center for their care and concern.
